And the opposite is also true. I strongly agree with the saying « we are spiritual beings having a human experience”.The body was given to us in order to live this earthly adventure. The feelings and emotions it houses are the signals that makes it possible for us to interact with our environement and learn about ourselves.

Thus respecting, pampering and listening to our body is not merely about grooming and looking good anymore, it is a spiritual endeavour and our lifetime duty. A sharp mind and a joyful soul in a healthy body: this is the winning trio for a rich and fulfilling life.

Here is what I have learned from experience about the benefits of healthy living and why I think holistic nutrition is THE secret for a happy life. To me real health means :

Feeling alive and totally alert

Eating well goes far beyond having a balanced diet or only some certain types of foods because it is said to be healthy. Health and healthy eating is not the final destination, it is a means to an end. Its purpose is to give you the much needed energy to live life to the fullest, devote time to your passions and interests, do what really matters and handle challenging situations with persistence, strenght and courage.  In short being healthy is really being the actor of your own life. And it is just plain  impossible to reach this level of vitality on a junk food diet.

 

Feeling excited about life yet confidently calm

Certain types of foods can have a huge influence on our mood and behaviour, sometimes even leading to emotional instability. In some people, too much sugar can cause an instant energy burst immediately followed by bouts of fatigue whereas in others it will trigger drowsiness straight away.Despite its well-known stimulating effects, coffee can create a state of chronic adrenal exhaustion, contribute to moodiness, bouts of anger and aggravate depression.

Eating well is making sure that the body is respected and nourished with foods that really are a good fit for it.  When we start to really care about how it feels and make our food, action, and lifestyle choices based on that, the body will soon show us its gratitude by awarding us a delicious feeling of true empowerment.
