As a new year begins, it’s an ideal time to let go of whatever is not serving you and open space in your life for that which will truly nourish your heart, body, and soul. For many people, the heaviest burden they want to release is emotional pain. This includes guilt and regrets from the past, anger and unresolved conflicts, memories of abuse or neglect, and any other emotional upset that prevents you from fully enjoying life in the present moment.
Although some of the most painful and complex traumas may require the help of a professional to go through them, one of the most common pain people struggle with is the emotional self-abuse caused by the “gaging” of their Inner Self.
So here is THE only promise I suggest you may make to yourself in this new beginning: NURTURE YOU HEART.
I mean it. In every situation, be it your work, your relationships or your hobbies, your lifestyle… practice extreme self-care as a religion. In every situation, ask yourself: what do I really need right now? What action or behaviour would make me feel at peace with myself now? Is my body thirsty or is it craving movement? Do I really want this promotion or is it only a goal I imposed to myself in an attempt to personify success in the eyes of others? If I keep procrastinating on that project, I may get instant relief but am I not signing up for a series of sleepless nights, thinking of all the things I should be doing to make things happen? What about paying attention to your inner dialogue and applying zero tolerance to negative, depreciative self-talk?
Only when you fully attend your real needs, will you be really able to root out the weeds that are blocking the energy of love to flow in and out of your heart. Ditch the “quit smoking”, “exercise more” and “lose 20 pounds” for now -not that they are not legitimate goals to have , but because if you focus on this only one thing : NURTURE YOUR HEART, everything else will flow effortlessly : you will naturally want to please your body or will even do it without noticing it. It won’t be so much that you will have managed to get rid of a harmful behavior, it will be more than healthy ones will have naturally taken their place!
Do you see the value of this single one resolution: NURTURE YOUR HEART? With such a powerful tool, overtime you may even be able to take the word resolution out of your vocabulary altogether, since you will be constantly doing what you need at the moment you need it.
Isn’t it freedom? Isn’t it power?
So, say goodbye to the pain that inevitably comes from realising that last year you have felt ..again, and make the only resolution that will enable you to break the cycle and feel good about yourself everytime New Year shows up.
